Infant sleep problems are running rampant among new parents and have been for centuries! Having a baby is one of the most rewarding experiences in the world. Of course, it doesn’t come without its challenges. There are some things you can do to ease the challenge of Infant sleep.
Your baby’s sleep patterns are tied to your own. You are probably incredibly aware of that if you can hardly open your eyes enough to function. As soon as you get your baby sleeping more easily you’ll feel better yourself. So, there is a benefit to your baby as well as to mommy and daddy.
Thankfully, sleeping patterns start to even out around three months old. But that doesn’t mean older babies are little sleeping angels. They can fuss with the best of them when you’d rather be getting some shuteye. Here are some things you can do to help alleviate the problem.
First, know that newborns will wake about every two hours. That is just the way they are. If your newborn baby is not waking frequently at night you need to wake them for feedings. That is to make sure that they are getting enough hydration. Everything you’ve heard about, “my son slept the whole night through the first night home from the hospital” is a no-no.
As your baby gets older they will be able to sleep for longer stretches of time. If they cannot, that’s when you classify them as infant sleep problems. To fix this you should determine how you want them to sleep.
There are different methods for every family. What works for you might not work for another family or infant. Some options are co-sleeping in bed, co-sleeping with the baby’s bed attached to the adult bed, baby sleeping in crib in the same room, and baby sleeping in crib in their own room.
You can look at their sleeping patterns no matter what your habits are. It is important that you know exactly how they are sleeping so that you can fix infant sleep problems. It is recommended that a baby, especially a very young one, sleeps near you so you can attend to their needs and also so you can examine their sleeping patterns.
Now, if you have been sleeping near your baby, they may have trouble starting to sleep on their own. This is when it’s best to ease them gradually into the practice of sleeping alone. You might hear some crying. It is best to make sure they feel comfortable with the situation, so remain nearby while placing them in their own area. This certainly does not apply to you if you are going to remain in a co-sleeping position.
Take note of what makes them cry. Are there things you could try to fix the problem? Some common ways to take care of infant sleep difficulties is to use a white noise machine or music to soothe your baby to sleep. You can also try to sing a song yourself or read a story. It is all about creating a nice environment while remaining firm about the sleeping situation. Remember, your baby can’t quite comprehend the situation yet so it will take some time.
Only you know what is best for you and your child. There are many different types of infant sleep problems, and investigating the patterns your baby has can help you fix them. Think of ways that will help your baby sleep and apply them gently but firmly to see what works.
